Severe Weather

Unfortunately, during the year, the school may have to on occasion close due to spells of bad weather e.g. snow and ice.  The school will endeavour to remain open where at all possible, however on occasions the school will have to make the decision to close.  A decision to close the school may be based on the following reasons:

  • Ensure the safety and well-being of pupils and staff.
  • Ensure the school is able to effectively deliver classes due to the number of staff able to travel to school safely
  • The impact of the severe weather on the school site and grounds, ensuring they are safe for the pupils, staff and visitors to the site

If the school has to take the decision to close, the following procedures will apply:

  • School website - a message will appear on the Announcements section (in the top right-hand corner of the website)
  • Text message - parents/carers will receive a text message confirming the school closure (please, ensure the school has your up to date contact details to ensure you receive important messages)
  • Local Authority - The school will advise the Local Authority of the school closure and this will be updated on their dedicated website https://www.luton.gov.uk/seasonal/winter/Pages/School-closures.aspx#high
  • Social media - updates will be posted on Twitter if you would like to follow us https://twitter.com/leamanorschool
